Employee of the Month: Alemtaye Yossef

The Sanaria employee of the month for February 2022 is Alemtaye Yossef.  Alem is a member of the Mosquito Production team, responsible for all in vitro iPfSPZ production activities in the lab, including major responsibilities in culture initiation, maintenance, and dissociation.  Alem is a quick learner evidenced by her ability to learn the current iPfSPZ production methodology quickly and successfully established several cultures producing iPfSPZ.  She has become a qualified  salivary gland dissector in a short period of time. Alem made amazing efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic to make sure that materials /consumables needed for iPfSPZ culture work are identified from different manufactures  and procured in a timely fashion to continue the in vitro experiments without interruption. She also took initiatives to train new staff in S2 cell culture, and in vitro culture methodology. Alem also supported aseptic mosquito production by participation in mosquito egg disinfection, pupa harvest and populating BAMCs etc.  Alem is very energetic, well-organized, detail oriented and is very reliable. 

Alem received her BS degree in plant sciences  from the Haramaya University of Agriculture, Ethiopia and has two MS degrees in Entomology from University of Free State, South Africa and  University of Nebraska, Lincoln.  Alem began at Sanaria in October 2020.
